The Offbeat Space

Syncopation is our pulse

The OffBeat.Space is a centre for theatre and stage arts, based in Belgium and founded by a collective of artists from Brussel, Ghent and The Netherlands. It’s founding members, Gonzalo Alarcón, Adriana La Selva and Marije Nie, have spent many years in the field of contemporary circus, physical theater, music, dance, performance and artistic. They combine experience that covers many different aspects of the stage arts including creation, production, direction, dramaturgy, reflection, research and education. The Offbeat Space is building a framework where projects can grow from initial idea to public presentation, while cultivating meaningful relationships and sharing creative processes.

The Offbeat Space produces labs, gatherings, workshops and trainings for professional artists and students, sometimes in co-production with other organisations. We offer opportunities for collective and individual work and are dedicated to make spaces where artistic research can remain open, where risk is welcomed and where collective creation can take place in full freedom. We encourage open experimentation, spontaneous collaborations, and artistic research, while understanding deeply that practice, techniques and tactics are always at the center.

Surrounding The Offbeat Space is a strong international network that has grown over time, between North and South of Europe but also reaching across the Atlantic to South America. The collective takes an active role in the development of a more flexible, nomadic and responsive way of working in the field of culture.
